WHAT IS THE SPIRIT OF ERROR?

Ecclestiates 5:6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

The foregoing passage clearly indicates that giving the excuse that it “was a error” is not necessarily acceptable before the Lord. The bible admonishes us as Christians to be holy even as our father in heaven is holy. However, many have found this difficult to accomplish due the in dwelling of the spirit of error somewhere in their lives.

In the below stated passage the bible acknowledges the existence of such spirits

Judges 1:11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

It was the Spirit of error in Balaam that made him work and desire contrary to will of God.
The case of Uzzah also comes to mind. Here was a child of God in whose fathers house the Ark of God rested for twenty years.
When King David chose to transport the ark Uzzah was one of two men assigned to watch over it. However, at a point in the journey the Oxen transporting the Ark stumbled. Uzzah, probably unaware that the mode of transportation was not in accordance with God’s command thought he could help. He held out his hand to prevent the Ark from falling and was struck dead in the process!

2 Samuel 6:7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
Uzzah paid with his life for this error! However, the fault was not really his. Earlier in the bible the Lord had commanded specifically how the Ark was to be transported.
He stated that the Ark was to be borne on the shoulders by the Levites. Why King David had not followed this commandment at this point is not clear but he was later to admit his folly. On the next occasion the Ark was to be transported as recorded in I Chronicles 15 he states:

1Ch 15:12-13 And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.
(13) For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.

Though not all men in whose lives the spirit of error wrecked havoc have paid with their lives the effect in their lives and ministries was equally devastating.
It was the spirit of error in Moses that prevented him from entering the Promised Land. The Spirit of Error in David, the spirit of sexual immorality which he inherited from his fore father, Judah saw, a curse placed upon his lineage. The spirit of error of Saul cut his lineage from the throne while the manifestation of the spirit of error in King Uzziah turned him into a leper.
In Abraham’s case the spirit of error saw him raise lineages, aside that of Isaac ordained by God creating problems for his divine lineage till date. Likewise, as we will examine, the spirit of partial obedience to God in the life of Abraham saw him feed and nourish the seed of enmity against his own children.
The good news however is that although the spirit of error is prevalent in the life of many believers today (Take note that we are examining the lives of children of God and not of children of the bond woman) we can live above such spirits.
A clear example is the life of Daniel. The bible records concerning him:

Dan 6:4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

In conclusion, we will also look at certain steps such people took to avoid falling to this spirit
Before we start examining the spirits proper let look at why we should study the activities of such spirits in our lives.
